What Is The Gruffalo Trail?
Explore the sensational hand-crafted sculptures of your favourite Gruffalo characters across a collection of charming routes. These woodland walks transform Axel Scheffler’s illustrations as physical beings ready & waiting to be adored in the environment they were destined to live in.
All in all, strolling through the Gruffalo trail takes around 45 minutes, but please enjoy & feel no need to rush or zoom through the day. Do not worry, there is no need to book space as the walk is fully self-guided. There are plenty of photo opportunities to capture those invaluable memories, or check out the augmented reality app to add in the illusion of the great Gruffalo. Just do not forget those wellies!

The free Gruffalo Spotter app is the must-have companion for strolling the routes. The Forestry Commission have partnered with Nexus Studios, & Magic Light Pictures to mix technology with nature to bring to you the ultimate Gruffalo experience. The interactive path features a selection of very special footprint signs; one for each character, which when used with the augmented reality app, presents a 3D animated version, including a life-sized Gruffalo!
The Gruffalo Spotter can be applied in 26 different forests in the UK, including Beechenhurst, Cannock Chase Forest, Delamere Forest, Guisborough Forest, Moors Valley Country Park, Sherwood Pines Forest Park, and Wendover Woods.
